Six years ago, we first heard about the MyCanoe, a two-seater canoe that folds like origami for transport and storage. That maker is back on Kickstarter with his smaller and lighter MyCanoe Solo 2.
Like the original model (now called the Duo) and the first version of Solo, the body of the Solo 2 is constructed from a pre-folded UV-resistant 5mm two-ply custom sheet. polypropylene.
When the canoe is not in use, the seat folds into a portable rectangular package that measures 43 inches long, 11 inches high, and 18 inches high (108 x 28 x 46 cm). When it’s time to get in the water, the seats fold up into a solo canoe that’s 9 feet 5 inches long and 31 inches wide (290 x 78 cm).
Integrated buckling straps keep it in shape and can reportedly be assembled by hand in just two minutes.

After slipping on the included seat, Solo 2 can be paddled like a regular 1-person canoe. It is said to weigh 19 pounds (8.8 kg), as opposed to the Duo’s 43 pounds (19.5 kg), and can support up to 300 pounds (136 kg) of paddler/cargo weight.
According to the designers, the Solo 2 should survive at least 20,000 folding cycles. It also comes with a patch kit in case users encounter jagged rocks or sharp sticks.
Assuming it hits production, a $469 USD pledge will get you your very own Solo 2. Planned retail price is $699. Optional extras include canoe or kayak style paddles, side-mounted stabilizer floats, backrest and footrests.
