Free, ad-supported creator content comes to The Roku Channel

Roku has signed a deal with creator company Jellysmack to launch new content featuring 17 top YouTube and TikTok creators, including Brad Mondo, Lauren Riihimaki (LaurDIY), Emmy Cho (Emmymade), and Karina Garcia. The company yesterday announced the launch of two free ad-supported TV (FAST) channels, “Hello Inspo” and “Mysteria,” on Roku Channel’s Live TV Guide.

“Hello Inspo” gives viewers access to their favorite lifestyle, beauty and fashion content creators, from room makeovers and recipes to DIYs, style hacks and makeup tutorials. In addition to the names above, other influencers featured on this channel include Liz Fenwick, HeXtian, Hellthy JunkFood, Smitha Deepak, and Josh Elkin.

“Mysteria” is a new true crime channel with content from Danelle Hallan, Stephanie Soo, Christina Randall, True Crime Recaps, Killer Bites, Dr. Todd Grande, John Lordan (LordanArts) and Brooke Makenna. Viewers can watch these creators recount their most haunting crimes and chilling unsolved mysteries.

Roku’s partnership with Jellysmack is worth noting. It brings creator programming (a popular content format) to the ever-growing popularity of ad-supported video on demand (AVOD). In the fourth quarter, the Roku Channel reached homes in the United States, attracting nearly 100 million viewers, the company reported.

“We are excited to partner with Jellysmack as our first FAST partner. Ashley Hovey said in a statement. “The addition of these new channels to our Live TV Guide is the latest example of our aim to give our users free access to popular entertainment options.”

Jellysmack has launched other video content series, but this is the first time it has released feature-length TV content on its FAST service. In July 2022, the company partnered with his Pinterest to launch five short video series of him on the platform. These weekly episodes on Pinterest feature the same creators like Cho, Garcia, Riihimaki and Fenwick on Roku’s new FAST channel.

Stefanie Schwartz, Head of Platform Partnerships at Jellysmack said: “Roku Channel’s linear service is the #1 FAST service on Roku, America’s #1 TV streaming platform, enabling our creators to reach a large and growing audience. Roku’s Top We are excited to showcase our creators on a large scale.”

Jellysmack’s Creator Program launched in 2019 and uses AI technology to empower creators and help distribute their content across various platforms such as YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok and Facebook. According to the company, the program has helped hundreds of top he creators, including MrBeast, Bailey Sarian, The Try Guys, and PewDiePie.

The new FAST channel joins Roku Channel’s vast content lineup, which includes over 80,000 free movies and shows and over 300 free live TV channels. Recently, Roku signed a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to add hundreds of free titles from HBO, HBO Max, Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, TLC and more.
