The third is yet another 50MP periscope telephoto sensor with f/3.0 aperture. 90mm lens with PDAF, OIS and 3.5x optical zoom. There is also a digital zoom of up to 100x. It has all the features you’d expect from a modern smartphone, all neatly packed into a circular camera island on the back. This is a quick overview and first impression of what you can do with the HONOR Magic5 Pro’s camera settings. I will provide more detailed information in future reviews. Keep an eye on Pocketnow to read our full review when it’s available.
Primary camera
The primary camera offers excellent daylight photography and is very consistent as far as color reproduction, sharpness and dynamic range are concerned. The 50MP main camera captures impressive photos rich in detail, sharpness and color.
The primary camera is well-balanced, has a large dynamic range, and excellent highlights and shadows. During the day, the camera takes impressive pictures. The colors look a little too saturated for my liking, but not so much that they look like completely different shades. .
Portrait photos can look underexposed, but the level of detail, color and sharpness is excellent. The bokeh effect is compelling and can be customized to your liking in the settings. The dynamic range is applied correctly and I get the expected image. Whether you take a picture of a coffee cup or a tree, it will instantly turn into a great photo to share with your friends on social media.
ultra wide angle camera
The ultra-wide camera is excellent in daylight, with lots of detail and great color. As a result, there is a slight color mismatch between the ultra-wide and primary cameras, and photos may appear underexposed and shadowy. This is not a big deal, but something to consider if you want to get the perfect shot.
Focus didn’t seem to be an issue when shooting them, but some were too blurry when viewed on the larger display. It has a bit of contrast, but it’s excellent high quality. Only when zoomed in does the image appear softer than the primary sensor, but that doesn’t seem to be a big deal most of the time.
telephoto camera
The telescopic periscope camera provides excellent results overall and matches the color production of the main sensor. It has great dynamic range, color, exposure and detail, and the 3.5x zoom capability is useful when you can’t get close to your subject.
Objects are always crisp, rich in detail and sharpness, and I’ve never had a problem with it. This could be the perfect phone for taking pictures of distant objects.
There’s also a 10x zoom toggle, which relies on a digital zoom and a telephoto camera, but the results are impressive and excellent. The only minor issue is that this has a hard time focusing on objects, resulting in blurry photos.
If you can spend the extra time focusing and stabilizing, you’ll get excellent images most of the time, but it can be a problem for people with shaky hands like me. On the other hand, the EIS and built-in OIS work great, and a little camera shake won’t ruin your shot. That said, we recommend using a tripod when using the 10x zoom feature.
First impression
It’s worth remembering that these are only first impressions. We’ll go into more detail in our full review, so keep an eye on Pocketnow. Keep an eye out for more detailed articles when they are published!
Generally speaking, the three 50MP sensors are excellent and offer beautiful photos in daylight. The primary camera is a huge step forward in terms of quality and is without a doubt one of the best smartphones with a camera we’ve tested so far in 2023. Lots of details, excellent without overexposing the subject It captures dynamic range, and shadows. A true flagship camera with the hardware and optimizations to prove it.
Portrait offers great bokeh effects and good object detection. I like the colors and the background is not too exposed. The ultra-wide sensor is also excellent, not perfect, but offering a good balance of fine detail with minimal loss of sharpness.
The telephoto sensor is one of the best we’ve tested so far, and it’s impressive. It will be interesting to see how it copes in low light conditions. Future reviews will include more samples.
Last year’s HONOR Magic4 Pro is one of the best camera-equipped smartphones on the market in 2022, and at first glance it looks like the Magic5 Pro will easily beat its successor. , plays a major role in improving image quality. HONOR has gone the extra mile to prove it’s on par with other manufacturers’ popular flagship devices, if not better in some areas. I’m excited to see it take it to the next level and can’t wait to share my conclusions in a full review coming soon.
