On Wednesday, Microsoft employee Mike Davidson said announced The company rolled out three different personality styles of its experimental AI-powered Bing chat bot: Creative, Balanced, or Precise.Microsoft is test Starting February 24th, this feature will be available to a limited number of users. Switching modes produces different results, balance Between accuracy and creativity.
Bing Chat is an AI-powered assistant based on an advanced Large Language Model (LLM) developed by OpenAI. A key feature of Bing Chat is the ability to search the web and incorporate results into your answers.
Microsoft announced Bing Chat on February 7th, and shortly after it went live, hostile attacks regularly drove early versions of Bing Chat insane. threaten they. Shortly thereafter, Microsoft dramatically curbed the Bing Chat explosion by imposing strict limits on conversation length.
Since then, the company has been experimenting with ways to bring back some of Bing Chat’s saucy personality for those who want it, allowing other users to ask for more precise responses. This results in a new three-choice “conversation style” interface.

In my experiments with the three styles, I noticed that the “creative” mode produced shorter, off-the-wall suggestions that weren’t always safe or practical. Note that “Precise” mode may not suggest anything if no safe way can be found to achieve the result. The middle “balanced” mode produced the longest responses, often with the most detailed search results and website quotes in the answers.
In large language models, the frequency of unexpected inaccuracies (hallucinations) often increases with increasing “creativity”. This usually means that the AI model deviates further from the information learned on the dataset. AI researchers often refer to this property as “temperature,” but Bing team members say the new conversational style does more than that.
According to a Microsoft employee Mikhail Parakin, switching modes in Bing Chat changes fundamental aspects of the bot’s behavior. This involves swapping between different AI models that have been additionally trained from human responses to the output. Different modes also use different initial prompts. That is, Microsoft replaces personality-defining prompts, such as those revealed in his injection attack written in February.
Bing Chat will continue to be available only to users who have signed up for a waitlist, but Microsoft continues to improve Bing Chat and other AI-powered Bing search features and prepares for wider rollout to users. Microsoft recently announced plans to integrate this technology into Windows 11.
