VR is becoming more and more popular within the gaming space, especially with devices like the Quest 2 and the new PSVR 2. Own a PS5 for PSVR 2. Then there’s the Quest Pro, which came in like a wrecking ball for a whopping $1500.
But something must have clicked on Meta, as the company just announced price cuts for its Quest 2 and Quest Pro devices effective March 5th. Now it costs $1000. 500 yen cut!
Given the popularity of the Quest line and Meta’s VR platform, we’re curious to see if the latest price cut will motivate you to buy the more premium Quest Pro.
The Quest Pro only launched six months ago, but Meta raised the price of the Quest 2 last summer, so the price drop was totally unexpected (but welcome). Meta didn’t say anything about Quest headset sales, but even with the popular Quest 2, Meta’s VR division is losing money.
Despite the Quest 2’s popularity, the next generation of VR headsets aren’t already here, and the hardware is a bit dated. The Quest Pro isn’t really a consumer product, but Android Central’s Nick Sutrich simply describes it as “a Quest 2 with better hardware.” In fact, he traded his Quest 2 for a Pro, so there’s no going back.
Of course, you can always wait for the Quest 3, which is set to release later this year. The headset will likely fall somewhere between the Quest 2 and Quest Pro in both specs and cost, and with new details already known about its design and plans for the launch title, it’s the absolute best VR. If you don’t want to splurge for the experience, check out the Quest Pro, it might be worth holding on to.
