WhatsApp testing new split view feature for Android tablets

What you need to know

  • WhatsApp wants to enhance the Android tablet experience with a new update.
  • It turns out that the messaging platform is testing a split view feature for Android tablets.
  • The latest update helps users keep their chats more organized and gives the app more screen real estate to interact with.

Android tablet users may soon find themselves using WhatsApp more productive than before, as the app is testing a new interface for large-screen users.

WABetaInfo says WhatsApp is offering a split-view interface for Android tablets. The new update is currently being tested in WhatsApp Beta. It’s an important update for owners of large screens, as at least two sections of the app can be seen on the screen at a glance. This is very similar to what Gmail does on your desktop or tablet screen.

A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo further reveals what to expect when the update is officially rolled out at scale.

In previous versions of the Meta-owned messaging platform, opening a chat or conversation in a group chat occupied the entire screen. I suspect that will change as the new split view feature will allow users to always see all chats on one side and interact with clicked conversations on the other side. This is definitely much more convenient.
