Vivo could soon join Samsung, Oppo and Motorola in the foldable phone race. The BBK-owned company is rumored to be preparing a Galaxy Z Flip 4 competitor called the Vivo X Flip, and a major leak has spilled the beans on its specs.

Like the Vivo X series of recent flagship phones, it has a large camera sensor on the back, possibly with the Zeiss logo. The camera consists of a 50MP Sony IMX866 main sensor and a 12MP Sony IMX663 ultra-wide shooter. If this is accurate, the Vivo X Flip could outperform Samsung’s rival, which only has a 12MP dual camera, on this front.
This flip phone’s most controversial feature may be its chipset. That’s his Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 coming in 2022. It’s not the newest mobile platform available, but the processor can keep up with the competition. The processor can also be combined with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Vivo’s decision to use an older SoC rather than the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC is most likely a cost-cutting move to compete with the best foldable devices from Samsung and sister company Oppo. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 also has a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, while the Oppo Find N2 Flip has a Dimensity 9000+.
According to the leak, the Flip foldable device will feature a 6.8-inch internal display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, similar to the Find N2 Flip. The Vivo X Flip has a 4,400mAh battery, which is the largest in a clamshell foldable handset, and could outperform the competition in terms of battery capacity. The charging speed is said to be 44W.
Rumor has it that Vivo will launch a foldable phone in China in April. But given Vivo’s lack of presence in North America, don’t hold your breath for a US launch.
