Flat is the new up, down is the new flat, dead is the new down

Welcome to Equity, a podcast about the business of startups. Here, we unlock the numbers and nuances behind the headlines.

this week Mary Ann Azevedo, Natasha Mascarenhas and Alex Wilhelm We got together to riff on the biggest startup and venture news of the week. And what news was that!

At the beginning of the show, I talked about the situation at Silicon Valley Bank. Of course, after finishing the recording, a little more began. So come there more. But there were other stories, too.

  • Deals of the Week: Roami (challenging Airbnb), Qualtrics (finally finding a permanent home?), VC-AI updates (Upfront Summit recap).
  • ADHD startups are a hot topic right now. From browsers to gamified help for To-Do, there are many startups on the market today looking to help people get their work done and organize their lives. At Equity, we are big fans of accessibility technology, so this was exactly what we were good at.
  • How fintech investors are coping with the new venture environment: Mary Ann spoke to seven different fintech investors about the coming year and where they are putting their capital. The answer from many of them? B2B payments. While it looks tough for fintech companies in general, some VCs are still bullish.
  • Prejudice, women, and how to brand in ventures: We then discussed Natasha and Becca’s brilliantly reported article Track how female VCs are transcending stigma through branding.

That’s it for this week! As always, thank you for listening.Until next time you can catch us on Twitter @EquityPod.
