Our firm opens full-time positions for experienced patent attorneys or patent agents with substantial experience filing patent applications related to either the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, polymer, or specialty chemical fields. Main Responsibilities:
- Examining U.S. patent applications at all stages, from filing to issuance, primarily in chemical technology
- Convincingly defend client interests before patent examiners and administrative patent judges
- Counseling clients on a wide range of issues, including examination strategy, operational freedom issues, cost optimization, and recent developments in US patent practice
- work the hours necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position
Required qualifications:
- 5-10 years of chemical patent prosecution experience, preferably in a law firm
- Registration number for patent examination in the US Patent and Trademark Office
- Licensed as a member of any US state bar (for attorneys)
- PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, biotechnology, or a closely related field
- English fluency
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Eligibility to work in the USA
- Be able to work full-time from our office in Tysons, Virginia (with continued concerns about COVID-19, you must also be able to work productively from home)
Preferential Eligibility:
- Be fluent in French, German and/or Japanese
- chemical industry experience
- Teaching experience at postgraduate chemistry level
- Degree from a highly ranked university and/or at least one university in Europe or Asia
