Telegram is one of the messaging apps that constantly offers new features on its messaging platform, and it often competes head-on by introducing new tools to rival WhatsApp. A recent update to the app brought new power saving modes and optimizations for low-end Android phones.
Telegram already has many customizations, animations, and lightweight effects to keep users engaged in conversations on the messaging service. For example, it consists of auto-playing GIFs, stickers, videos, emoji animations, etc. These customizations make the app a fun and energetic experience, but with the new update you can now disable these animations to speed up your Android phone’s performance when using the app.
In a blog post announcing, Telegram said the new power saving mode can disable the aforementioned features to “extend battery life and improve performance on older devices.”
The latest update lets users toggle power saving modes and tweak individual settings for autoplay, animations and effects Settings > Power SaverAccording to Telegram, they manually test over 200 device types to create “optimized default settings” to ensure the best app user experience on all Android phones.
Another notable feature of the new update is the ability to change granular playback speed with greater flexibility. Currently, messaging platforms allow 0.5x, normal, 1.5x, and 2x playback speeds, which can be adjusted for videos, podcasts, audio and video messages shared within the app. This feature is now more flexible as the user can select any speed between 0.2x and 2.5x (e.g. 2.3x) by simply pressing and holding the playback speed button.
Other nifty features within the update consist of a “read time” feature that allows users to see when messages have been read within small groups of 100 members. Users who have restricted participation in groups created by contacts can request to join via the invite link in the latest update. These invite links have a preview so you know what the user is going to do before joining.
Other newly added features include animated emojis as part of the latest update rollout. This update comes with 10 new packs of custom emojis for Telegram Premium users. New interactive emojis and reactions are included in the update as well.
Telegram also said of the new features introduced: It also fixes over 400 known defects.
