The iQOO Z7 and Z7x have just been announced in China. Note that these are separate models from the Z7 5G that launched in India last week. And while there is no Pro model (yet), the standard Z7 inherits (and in some ways surpasses) some of the qualities of the Z6 Pro.
iQOO Z7
The iQOO Z7 shares some similarities with the Z6 Pro (despite the naming), but it’s not a true successor. It is powered by his Snapdragon 782G which is his Qualcomm replacement for the 778G(+) that the Z6 Pro used (his normal Z6 used SD 695 instead.
Here it is paired with 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM (LPDDR4X) and 128/256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Unlike the regular Z6, the storage cannot be expanded. This phone (and other Z7 models) launches with Android 13 and (at least in China) OriginOS 13. It supports up to 8GB of virtual RAM.
Another major upgrade for this generation is the 5,000mAh battery, which now supports 120W fast charging (up from 5,000mAh/18W on the Z6 and 4,700mAh/66W on the Z6 Pro). The company says a 5-minute charge will let him play 5 hours of streaming video. A fully charged battery lasts about 16.5 hours of streaming.
The Z7 has a larger screen (6.64 inches diagonal) than both of its predecessors, and is an LCD (1,080 x 2,388 pixels, 19.9:9). It has a refresh rate of 120Hz and supports HDR10 with 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.
The rear camera is very basic, a single 64MP module (f/1.8 lens with OIS) and a 2MP depth sensor. No ultrawides here. The front camera has a 16MP sensor. Both face unlock and side-mounted fingerprint readers are available.
iQOO 7 in Space Black, Atomic Blue and Infinite Orange
The Z7 has a 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth 5.2 with support for aptX Adaptive and LDAC. The phone is certified for Hi-Res audio (both wired and wireless).
iQOO Z7x
The iQOO Z7x is similar to the vanilla Z6. The 6/8GB he uses the same Snapdragon 695 chipset with LPDDR4X RAM and 128/256GB UFS 2.2 storage. It also has a microSD slot for cards up to 1TB.
The battery is bigger and faster, with a capacity of 6,000mAh and charges at 80W (up from 5,000mAh/18W on the Z6). It’s not as fast as the Z7 battery, but some people prefer more capacity than speed. At 100%, you’ll be able to watch videos for nearly 19 hours.
Like its siblings, the x-phone has a 6.64-inch LCD (1,080 by 2,380 pixels, 19.9:9 aspect ratio) with a 120Hz refresh rate. This display covers the entire DCI-P3 color gamut but lacks HDR10.
Punched into the display is an 8-megapixel selfie camera, which also houses a side-mounted fingerprint reader. As for the rear camera, it has a 50MP sensor (f/1.8 lens, no OIS) and a 2MP depth sensor.
iQOO 7x in Space Black, Atomic Blue and Infinite Orange
The Bluetooth version is a bit old (v5.1), but it still has aptX Adaptive and LDAC support, as well as a 3.5 mm jack for fans of wired headphones.
price and availability
The iQOO Z7 and Z7x are available for pre-order on vivo’s Chinese online store. The base Z7 with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage starts at CNY 1,600 ($235/€215/₹19,000), while the top 12/256GB one is CNY 2,000.
The iQOO Z7x starts at CNY 1,300 ($190/€175/₹15,500) for the 6/128GB model and reaches CNY with the 8/256GB option.
The first Z7 and Z7x units are expected to ship on Friday the 24th.
