The RTX 4070 Ti started off as something very different. Nvidia had planned to launch his 12GB RTX 4080 at $899, but after a backlash, the company decided to “discontinue” the card. And now it’s back in the form of the RTX 4070 Ti, with the same specs and the same 12 GB of memory. Aside from the branding, the only thing that’s really changed is the price. With an expected base price of $799, Nvidia is looking to challenge the latest prices of AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XT ($899) and RX 7900 XTX ($999) RDNA 3 cards.
This is a price range that is likely to divide the PC gaming community. Like many others, I wasn’t convinced by the value proposition of the $1,199 RTX 4080 and $1,199 RTX 3080 Ti. However, the RTX 4070 Ti comfortably outperforms the RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3090 ($1,499), and closes in on the RX 7900 XT in many games. However, there is a clear gap between the 4070 Ti and the 4080. The $799 base retail price is seemingly affordable compared to the rest of the RTX 40-series lineup and AMD’s new Radeon cards, but the lack of a Founders Edition directly from Nvidia means you can actually buy RTX. The 4070 Ti price may be higher in physical stores.
The RTX 4070 Ti delivers solid performance in both 1440p and 4K games. Almost 20% faster than the RTX 3080 at a price increase of almost 15%. In fact at $799 if he can find one, performance is a particularly sweet spot for his high refresh rate gaming at 1440p. It’s an open question, but even the Gigabyte unit I tested retails for $849. With actual prices closer to $899 from Nvidia’s partners who like to add features and customize the card beyond the base configuration, the RX 7900 XT looks even more attractive. The battle between these particular cards really comes down to retail price, especially since the RX 7900 XT isn’t hard to find at $899.
Either way, it’s good that Nvidia didn’t try to launch this card as a pared-down RTX 4080 at $899. It would have fallen like a lead balloon.
How to rate and review products
With no Founders Edition of the RTX 4070 Ti, Nvidia relies on board partners to lead the design and layout of their latest GPUs. I’ve been testing Gigabyte’s $849 Eagle OC 12GB card. This represents the typical layout of the RTX 4070 Ti. It has three blade fans on the bottom, a metal back plate on top and RGB lighting effects on the sides.
A large vapor chamber keeps the card cool, and it features an extended heatsink that channels air toward the RAM or CPU. On the back are three 1.4 DisplayPorts and one HDMI 2.1 port. It can power a 4K monitor at 240Hz or an 8K monitor at 60Hz.
It is a pity that there is no Founders Edition this time. Because I was a fan of Nvidia’s recent redesign of his RTX 4080 and 4090. But this particular Gigabyte card, Founders Edition or not, is a 16GB RTX 4080. Based on his Nvidia of the previous generation, we expect the card to be a bit smaller as it goes down the line, but this was originally slated to launch as the RTX 4080, so it’s still on the big side.
I had no problems installing it in the case, and Gigabyte also offers anti-slack brackets to protect the motherboard’s PCIe slots from slack. , the power adapter may cause problems with clearing the side panel. Gigabyte uses a single 12-pin PCIe 5 connector on the RTX 4070 Ti, and there’s an adapter cable in the box so you can connect two 8-pin PCIe power cables. 1 less than the RTX 4080, mainly because this card consumes less power.
The RTX 4070 Ti maxes out at 285 watts, 35 watts less than the RTX 4080. A power supply of at least 750 watts is required. One of the new ATX 3.0 that adds a new PCIe 5.0 12VHPWR connector if you’re looking to upgrade your PSU. If not, I still prefer custom cables over Nvidia’s chunky power adapters.
1440p benchmark
For our 1440p test, we paired the RTX 4070 Ti with Intel’s latest Core i9-13900K processor and a 32-inch Samsung Odyssey G7 monitor. The monitor supports refresh rates up to 240Hz and Nvidia’s G-Sync technology.

We did a head-to-head comparison with the RTX 4080, AMD’s new Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX, and some RTX 30-series cards to see exactly how this “unreleased” card compares. As with any recent GPU review, my test routine includes a variety of AAA games. Cyberpunk 2077, Forza Horizon 5When assassin’s creed valhalla.
All games were tested at max or ultra settings on all tested GPUs and most were able to deliver over 100fps performance at 1440p. If you have a 1440p 144Hz monitor, the RTX 4070 Ti can comfortably hit high framerates, and games feel much smoother than he did at 60Hz.
Overall, the RTX 4070 Ti is around 20% faster than the RTX 3080 at 1440p. It comfortably outperforms the RTX 3090, so you get plenty of performance for $799. Shadow of the Tomb Raider I managed to push past 200fps. Cyberpunk 2077 At super settings over 100fps.
Comparing the RTX 4070 Ti to AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XT, AMD beats comfortably in titles like the following, giving it a shot in exchange for the price. assassin’s creed valhalla, Watch Dogs LegionWhen Cyberpunk 2077.
Where Nvidia has the edge is DLSS and ray tracing performance. His Nvidia cards lead AMD here, and DLSS 2 alone offers a significant performance boost. Since the RTX 4070 Ti is a 40-series card, he also has access to his DLSS 3, which has significantly improved the performance of the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 cards so far.
RTX 4070 Ti is about the same.i tested both Microsoft Flight Simulator When Cyberpunk 2077 With DLSS 3 enabled, frame rates are really impressive compared to what’s available natively. Most of the time, it’s difficult to see the difference between his DLSS quality settings in Nvidia and native 4K. There is an occasional softness, but I think most people would struggle to spot the difference in visual quality and would greatly benefit from the higher framerate.
DLSS 3 still has occasional image glitches. cyberpunk 2077, However, that’s probably why it hasn’t been published yet.I’ve been testing a pre-release version of Cyberpunk 2077, with all settings dialed up and psycho ray tracing enabled, still achieves frame rates well above 100 fps. If you don’t mind dropping to DLSS performance mode, you can max out all settings at 1440p and still hit 163 fps. This takes full advantage of a 144Hz monitor and looks great.
of Microsoft Flight Simulator, DLSS 3 manages twice the frame rate. I went from an acceptable 61 fps to 123 fps. This is an incredible leap for a highly demanding game on both CPU and GPU. As I mentioned in my RTX 4080 review, I noticed strange results even with DLSS 2 turned on. microsoft flight simulator However, the actual performance will be slower than without DLSS 2 enabled.
4K benchmark
On the 4K side, we tested the RTX 4070 Ti with a 31.5-inch Acer Nitro XV2 monitor. This monitor supports refresh rates up to 144Hz, but the RTX 4070 Ti is nowhere near offering frame rates to take advantage of these higher refresh rates.
All games except Microsoft Flight Simulator, Metro ExodusWhen Cyberpunk 2077 But I managed to reach over 60fps. But the RTX 4080 is up to 20% faster than his RTX 4070 Ti at 4K, even if a lower-tier card could comfortably beat his RTX 3090.
Cyberpunk 2077 The RTX 4070 Ti can only achieve 51 fps, falling short of the 60 fps that AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XT was able to achieve at 4K. Neither the RTX 4080 he could reliably manage 60fps. Both cards need his DLSS 2 or DLSS 3 for much better performance.
If DLSS 3 is enabled on cyberpunk 2077, With everything maxed out and psycho ray tracing and DLSS 3 performance mode enabled, I was able to average 88 fps. DLSS 3 was even able to double the frame rate at 4K and DLSS 2 was even able to improve performance slightly. Microsoft Flight Simulator To Hit 60fps.
Encountered below-expected performance again Counter-Strike: Global Offensive In both 1440p and 4K. Nvidia was able to reproduce the same dip I’ve seen on his RTX 4080, so I suspect there’s a bug somewhere. In any case, we still saw frame rates averaging over 240 fps in 4K, so even his current best 4K monitor for that particular title is well worth it.
Nvidia has fixed some VBIOS issues with the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 cards. I couldn’t get any output on my Samsung Odyssey G7 until the drivers were installed. Unfortunately, the same issue exists on the RTX 4070 Ti. You will need to use a different monitor and install the drivers as the display still won’t come up in the early stages of BIOS. I don’t know how many monitor brands are affected by these issues, but I hope Nvidia can fix them completely as soon as possible.
of 12GB RTX4080 The RTX 4070 Ti is a great 4K card if you can get it for $799. As mentioned earlier, the value of this card depends on its retail price. At half the price of the RTX 4090 ($1,599), the RTX 4090 offers around 40% higher performance in my testing.
It also comfortably beats the RTX 3080, a card that was priced at $699 when it first launched, giving it roughly 20% more performance than the RTX 3080. This is in view of pricing and performance in the GPU market where prices are increasing with each generation.
If you want something a little higher than the RTX 4070 Ti, AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX cards are the obvious choice over the $1,199 RTX 4080. , the card was originally supposed to be $100 more expensive.
We think the RTX 4070 Ti will be a popular choice for many if the price stays at $799. But with overclocked versions from various card makers and no Founders Edition to put pressure on pricing, it’s not clear what the 4070 Ti’s pricing mix will actually look like. , couldn’t find a $799 RTX 4070 Ti listed on Best Buy. The closest are the $839 options from MSI and PNY.
If the $799 RTX 4070 Ti isn’t easy to find, the fate of Nvidia’s ‘unreleased’ RTX 4080 really depends on existing Radeon options and whatever more affordable GPUs come next from AMD and Nvidia. Decide.
