Motorola’s latest premium smartphone spec sheets are a dream come true for most smartphone enthusiasts. The 6.67-inch 165Hz FHD pOLED display is surrounded by a sleek “endless edge” design, with all four edges curved into an aluminum frame that Motorola calls excellent comfort.
Its new design maintains IP68 water and dust resistance, and the screen features an anti-fingerprint coating to keep smudges to a minimum. Covered front to back with Gorilla Glass Victus, it can withstand life’s unpredictable moments.
like most of the best phones (opens in new tab) For 2023, it’s powered by a cutting-edge Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, with 256 GB of lightning-fast UFS 4.0 storage and LPDDR5X RAM for speed.
On the back is a redesigned camera housing with three cameras like last year’s Edge 30 Ultra. (opens in new tab), featuring a main 50MP camera with all-pixel PDAF and OIS, and a 12MP 2x telephoto camera and a 50MP ultra-wide/macro camera combo. There’s also an upgraded 60MP camera on the front for ultimate selfie quality. Motorola points out that the Edge 40 Pro can record up to 8K resolution or 4K HDR10+ for the best possible quality.
Speaking of quality, Motorola has equipped the camera with some new recording features. The new Video Portrait and new Video Night Vision modes transform two popular photo modes into video recording capabilities. You can also use auto focus tracking with standard recording. And the new horizontal lock stabilization keeps the camera smooth while recording extreme sports.
Motorola is also introducing a new Moto Spatial Sound feature that uses Dolby Atmos and two large on-body speakers for great sound. Speaking of surround, ThinkShield aims to surround the user with additional security features, and the Motorola 40 Edge Pro works with Lenovo’s ThinkReality A3 smart glasses for a stable his AR experience.
Finally, Motorola is pushing the charging envelope with 125W wired charging, charging the 4,600mAh battery from zero to 100 in 23 minutes. It also supports 15W wireless charging, allowing him to reverse charge wireless charging devices such as earphones at 5W.
The Edge 40 Pro will be available on European shelves for €899.99 and within a few days in Latin America within a few weeks. There’s no information on the availability of the Edge 40 Pro in the US, but Motorola says it will be bringing more Edge phones to North America this year, which is an encouraging sign.
