Ram was the last of the big three automakers to show off an electric pickup truck, finally at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The concept of the Ram 1500 Revolution was boldly styled, with dramatically slanted A-pillars, a recurring angle between cab and bed, and swollen wheel arches that made one suspect an anaphylactic reaction.
Today, Ram showed off its production 1500 REV electric pickup at the New York International Auto Show. The styling is much more conventional than his January concept, but looking at the specs made me utter “WTF.”

So far, Ford and Rivian have dominated the electric pickup market. GMC has had to halt production of its giant Hummer EV for a while, and Tesla’s Cybertruck is still poised to go into production, but there’s no indication that it’s actually happened. Meanwhile, Chevrolet’s Silverado EV should start showing up on the road and in the field, with deliveries of the work truck version set to begin in spring 2023.
Perhaps Ram’s product folks and engineers realized they needed to do something big to stand out in the fast-growing arena of electric trucks. And they’ve gone big because they can spec the Ram 1500 Revolution with a truly gigantic battery that delivers 500 miles (805 km) of range.
