Fitness trackers and smartwatches cost a dozen dollars, but two brands dominate the budget segment for the most part. Google-owned Fitbit and Amazfit are the go-to choices for most people who want an affordable smartwatch and tracker with all the health and fitness features they need.
Amazfit easily surpasses Fitbit with its extensive line of smartwatches available at every imaginable price point. No problem because the Amazfit wearable always delivers. In addition to the usual sensors that measure blood oxygen levels, heart rate and stress levels, the brand’s products are water resistant and come with Alexa.
Unfortunately, almost all Amazfit watches also have the same shortcomings. Since it uses Zepp OS, there is no support for third party apps. Also, there’s no on-screen keyboard, so you can’t type replies to messages you receive on the phone.
Enter the newly minted Amazfit GTR Mini, a simplified version of the GTR series. This brand new wearable mimics the concept of the GTS Mini, the ‘lite’ version of the flagship GTS lineup. As expected, it has a lot in common with all the best Amazfit smartwatches, both good and bad.
Pricing and Availability
Amazfit released the GTR Mini on March 14th, 2023. The wearable is available in three colors: Midnight Black, Misty Pink, and Ocean Blue. As much as I love the design of the Amazfit GTR Mini, I wish it hadn’t ditched the rotating crown feature found in full-blown GTR models. Yes, the round display is very large and easy to operate with your fingers, but the rotating buttons are much more classy and more fun to use. may become.
My other fears are the same ones I have with almost all other Amazfit watches: the GTR Mini doesn’t have a speaker or a microphone, so Alexa can’t listen to your smartwatch when your phone is nearby. Only works when connected. There is no on-device storage for music, and the watch does not support third-party apps.
There is no on-screen keyboard, so text responses to message notifications are limited. Speaking of message notifications, the GTR Mini cannot display images sent as messages.
There isn’t much in the box other than a ridiculously short proper charger and the Amazfit smartwatch itself. I hope the brand includes an extra band to spice things up.

If you’re looking to buy a fitness-focused smartwatch for around $100-$150, no other brand offers as much as Amazfit. The brand has so many great inexpensive smartwatches and fitness trackers on its roster that it’s really hard to settle on one. becomes even more complicated.
Those who like square displays can opt for the Amazfit GTS 4 Mini which has all the same features and the same cost. We can assure you that the user experience is better than GTS 4 Mini.
You can also get the latest generation Amazfit GTS 3, which has many sport modes, Alexa, many health and fitness tracking features, etc. However, GTS 3 has features like GTS 2 and GTS 4. Outside of Amazfit, the Fitbit Versa 2 is also a viable option. It costs $120 and comes with Alexa, Fitbit Pay, health and fitness sensors, and Spotify. Versa 2 doesn’t run Wear OS and doesn’t have built-in GPS.
