With a wireless charger, you don’t have to wrestle with cords anymore, just toss your phone on top of the charger and go about your day. Brought to life by FreePower technology, Tesla’s new wireless charging platform has undergone an excellent teardown by JerryRigEverything. You might be starting to get sick of imagining him scraping metal with a cutter…and you would be right to do so.
Tesla’s latest wireless charger is housed in an angled metal frame with a soft surface to hold your device to prevent unnecessary damage. The plastic charging brick can output 65W charging power. However, Tesla’s products don’t deliver that much power to individual devices, and some of the best Android phones support such speeds.
Instead, the wireless charging platform provides 15W fast charging for each device (up to 3) simultaneously.
When the front platform comes off, viewers are exposed to an array of wireless charger copper coils that appear to pop the top off their favorite dessert, JerryRigEverything points out 30 copper coils in the teardown. All of this helps the device know where it is on the outside and which coil should power it.
Additionally, multiple of these copper discs can be activated as a team effort to create an inductive field that a phone or earphone coil can use to gain power.
Removing the plate of copper coil shows how the wireless charging platform removes the heat that the circuit conducts during charging.
