Introducing the Thermal Guard XTREME Heatsink
TweakTown got another PS5026-E26 based drive. This time from Gigabyte. Unlike many other PCIe 5.0 drives on the market, the AORUS Gen5 10000 SSD doesn’t have a fan in the big cooler. The cooler is apparently coated with a nano-carbon heatsink and stands at an impressive 44.7 mm (1.75 inches) tall. This size is certainly effective as the drive temperature never reaches 60 degrees Celsius in our tests and remains low enough to not experience thermal throttling. Not all slots on the board will fit as many motherboard manufacturers want to hide his M.2 slot under his GPU.
Performance is on par or better than other PCIe 5.0 drives tested by TweakTown, reading and writing over 10,000MB/s in CrystalDiskMark and other benchmarks. AORUS Gen5 10000 SSD also topped the 100GB copy test and 13GB read test. Interestingly, the drive outperformed the Z590-based one by over 10% on the B650E test bed.
The drives are hard to sell right now, but we expect to need to invest around $339.99 in the 2TB model once stocks are back. It’s a little more expensive than the PCIe 4.0 drives out there, but you always have to pay for the best.
