4TB SanDisk Extreme SSDs Are A Bit Too Extreme

After continual writes, the drive’s file system gets corrupted and data disappears

A significant number of users of portable SanDisk Extreme SSDs, especially Extreme V2 and Extreme Pro V2 2TB and 4TB models, have experienced catastrophic data loss. Prolonged writes seem to corrupt the file system on the drive and cause all data to be lost. In some cases, users were able to get back at least some of their files using data recovery tools, but in many cases, nothing was successfully restored.

Most of the complaints are about the 4TB SanDisk Extreme SSD and Pro variants, and SanDisk plans to release a firmware update to fix the issue. At this time, there is no news of data loss for owners of 2TB models. Unfortunately, there are also no details about when the firmware update for the 4TB model will be released or what it will actually fix. SanDisk has also not issued an official policy regarding refunds to users who no longer use these drives.

If you have, you should backup everything in it to another location as soon as possible.
