Slightly less damaging than data loss, but still…
Microsoft Surface Pro X owners noticed that their cameras suddenly stopped working completely. The issue started this week and many people are trying to find the root cause. This is definitely not the driver. Reinstalling various versions did not restore functionality for those who were having issues.
Instead, the certificate seems to be expired as the camera rolls back the system date for some time before the camera rolls back on May 22nd. However, there are many authentication methods that require an exact date, so rolling back the date will have adverse effects. Also, it only lasts until the clock returns to his 23rd.
If you or someone you know has a Surface Pro X and is experiencing this issue, don’t spend too much time troubleshooting it, as we know it’s not an easy fix.
