The year I lived two lives
Episode 1 of Lady Voyeur Season 1 begins on New Year’s Eve, with Miranda struggling with the fact that she has fallen in love with two men. She is emotional because she blames herself for assaulting one of her men. Her hooded figure attacks her, but her timeline looks back to her life three months before she met Fernando.
Miranda has an interesting life of observing people without being seen. Her neighbor Cleo has moved into an apartment whose windows face the front of the house. She’s ready to do anything to hack her surveillance cameras and spy on her neighbors.
Miranda turned 28 on Wednesday, October 1st. But she doesn’t want to go out to celebrate her birthday because she wants to see Cleo entertain her clients. As she claims, Cleo’s apartment has a vulnerable surveillance system that can be easily hacked by any tech savvy person.
Rita shows up at Miranda’s house to salute her with stories about how her man makes steamy erotic adventures. However, Miranda doesn’t like her because the new man keeps a low profile.
Miranda then visits her grandma, who suffers from Huntington, a rare genetic disease. Progressive brain damage leads to cognitive loss, emotional problems, and uncontrolled movements. Being a genetic disease means there’s a 50% chance Miranda has the same problem. However, she is hesitant to take the test.
On October 8th, Cleo was invited by a client to a hotel for the weekend. She can’t afford to pass up such a golden opportunity and she demands that Miranda leave her “Barbie doll” at home. Hmm, this is exciting! It might just be what Miranda has been waiting for.
Cleo’s apartment is full of sex toys and Miranda wastes no time perusing all these seductive paraphernalia. A short while later, the client knocks to let her know that Cleo is away. However, men seem to like her even more, implying that she is sexier than Cleo.
Cleo’s meeting with Heitor at the Prado Hotel is interrupted by his wife, Diana. A confrontation ensues and Heitor threatens to divorce her. Diana, however, points out that she knows some dirty secrets about him that she can use in court.
At Cleo’s apartment, Miranda has a love session with Fernando Couto, Cleo’s Friday client. He leaves quickly, but he forgets something so he comes back.
Shortly after Fernando left, an elderly client knocked. Although she is unable to entertain him, he begins to force himself on her. Miranda tries to fight back, but luckily Fernando returns and helps her. With one push, the man hit the table and fell to the ground dead.
Miranda begins in shock over killing a man, but Fernando calms her down. He comes up with a plan to clear the man’s tracks from the apartment. He tells her to clean her apartment while he deals with her body. Miranda also erases the footage from the apartment’s surveillance cameras.
He leaves and later returns to find Miranda on the verge of surrendering herself. He chases after her to keep quiet, pointing out that he too was an accomplice in her crimes. He confides that this is not the first time he has covered up a crime.
Ostensibly, Fernando is Diana’s brother, and he confesses to being an accomplice in a previous crime. reveals dirty secrets about Heitor. Miranda is ready to help Fernando by hacking Hater’s computer and collecting her confidential data. However, this can be a dangerous mission.
Fernando takes Miranda to see Heitor and to her surprise, she finds out that he is the man she has admired all along. The episode ends with the hooded character attacking Miranda and ruminating about the beginning of the series pushing her down.
episode review
Episode 1 gives us a small glimpse of Miranda and the mission she’s about to undertake. It is interesting for her to meet her beloved Fernando and Heitor. But will her mission be too risky for her?
This episode leaves us feeling suspenseful as we eagerly await what unfolds in the next episode.
