

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported that in the week ending 5 January 2023, the weekly inflation rate measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) rose by 1.09% in the total consumption group.

According to PBS data, the 1-week SPI during the review for the above group was recorded at 219.56 points compared with 217.20 points for the previous week.
Compared to the corresponding week last year, the composite consumption group’s SPI increased by 30.60% during the week under study.
Base year 2015-16 = 100 weekly SPIs covering 17 city centers and 51 mandatory items for all expenditure groups.
The lowest spending group’s SPI up to Rs 17,732 rose 1.13% to 227.98 points from last week’s 225.44 points.
On the other hand, the SPI of Rs 17,732-22,888, Rs 22,889-29,517, Rs 29,518-44,175 and Rs 44,175 and above consumption groups increased by 1.23 per cent, 1.21 per cent, 1.19 per cent and 0.98 per cent respectively.
Of the 51 items in the week, 23 (45.10%) increased in price, 09 (17.65%) decreased, and 19 (37.25%) stabilized.
The commodities with average weekly price decreases were potatoes (4.61%), eggs (1.31%), tomatoes (1.17%), LPG (0.85%) and vegetable ghee 2.5 kg. (0.71%), 5 liters of cooking oil (0.32%), sugar (0.24%), 1 kg of vegetable ghee (0.11%), pars massol (0.05%).
Commodities that recorded average price increases included chicken (16.09%), rice basmati browning (5.16%), wheat flour (4.87%), rice illy 6/9 (3.45%), bananas (2.97%) and onions. will be (2.65%), bread (1.24%), salt flour (1.07%), legumes (1.02%).
On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, commodities whose prices fell include powdered chilies (22.98%), Q1 power (13.96%) and guru (1.11%).—APP
