Feria has been investing in start-ups in this space for the last seven years. She and her partners at Stray Dog Capital have invested in over 40 companies, from her well-established Beyond Meat to her up-and-comers No Evil Foods, Kite Hill, Yo! egg.
Based in Leawood, Kansas, the company was founded in 2015. CEO and managing his partner Feria has seen most of the ups and downs.
Big companies are struggling these days. Beyond Meat’s stock has fallen 80% over the past year. Milk substitute maker Autry is plagued with production problems. And consumers are generally cool with products. McDonald’s McPlant Burger rollout plans stalled as demand slumped and companies adjusted, and meat giant JBS closed its plant-based meat division.
Still, Feria and others remain bullish in this space. TechCrunch asked her why she remains optimistic and what she’s telling portfolio companies in these uncertain times.
