Gas stoves harm our health and the climate – should they be banned?

U.S. officials are reportedly considering a ban on new gas stoves in light of studies that claim they are linked to one in eight childhood asthma cases.

For many restaurant chefs and avid amateur cooks, gas has long been the fuel of choice for cooking on the stovetop. Preparing meals over an open flame is a quicker, more responsive experience than relying on electric or induction heaters. But in the face of growing evidence of the public health and climate threats gas poses, this love affair with gas may come to an end.
