Adaptations of video games for linear media have had a somewhat hit-and-miss history at this point, but the prestige TV treatment of this post-apocalyptic thriller has garnered plenty of early buzz. That’s probably thanks to the involvement of the game’s creative director Neil Druckmann, who also serves as executive producer and director of the TV series.

This adaptation could also benefit from the already established tight narrative of Last of Us game. Through carefully crafted cutscenes and moments of unruly dialogue during gameplay, these games feel like fast-paced TV shows anyway.

Will on HBO Last of Us Can you capture what makes the game so special? Will the show be compelling for those who haven’t touched the game? Will you make a furious change to the characters that have become like? Can Kyle and Andrew survive the spectacle of dozens of creepy, fungus-infested threats each week?
