LG Electronics (LGE) on Thursday announced a recall of four models of its 86-inch 4K TVs due to tipping concerns. Affected by the recall are his 52,000 TVs with model numbers 86NANO75UQA, 86UQ7070ZUD, 86UQ7590PUD, and his 86NANO75UQA, sold between March and September 2022.
The recall notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) states that the TV “may be unstable on the assembled stand, presenting a serious tipping or pinching hazard and may be injured or killed.” The recall applies to TVs priced between $1,100 and $1,900 at Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, and other physical stores.
The recall notice states that owners of affected models should remove the TV from its stand and place it in a safe place out of the reach of children. It also advises customers to contact LGE for “instructions on how to inspect the unit and obtain replacement screws and stand parts, including assistance from a technician for free repairs.” .
In a statement to Digital Trends, LG said the LED TV itself, which weighs up to 101.2 pounds including the stand, isn’t flawed. The TV only poses a risk if the stand isn’t properly attached, he said, LG. Otherwise, the TV may put undue strain on the stand and damage it.
“LGE believes the product is free from defects and does not pose any serious danger or undue risk to the product. Although there is no problem with the product itself, we will actively notify owners of the TV models involved. LG is taking steps to provide support to avoid the risk of harming TVs and the living environment of our customers,” LG said in a statement to Digital Trends.
The company said it provides written and video instructions to customers so they can determine if the stand is installed correctly.
“Additional measures such as technician visits and new screws or stand elements are also being considered on a case-by-case basis,” LG said.
