All tastings reported in the buying guide are done blind. Products are typically tasted in peer group flights of 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about the flight to provide context such as vintage, cultivar and name, but never know the producer or retail price of a particular selection. Where possible, products deemed defective or unconventional will be re-tasted.

Ratings reflect what the editors felt about a particular product. In addition to grading, we recommend reading the accompanying tasting notes to learn about the special characteristics of the product.
Products deemed unsatisfactory (rating below 80) will not be reviewed.
