Previously, my stand of choice was the ($60) Twelve South Curve Laptop Stand, which was both taller and wider than the Amazon Basic stand. Of course, it makes sense that the more expensive stand offers extra functionality and extra stability.I chose it because it offers a 6 inch tall display.Camera for video calls I especially like it when I use it.
Switching to the very cheap Amazon Basics laptop stand may have cut the laptop’s height just short of half the 3 inches, but typing on the laptop’s keyboard is very comfortable and doesn’t feel crowded. It didn’t take up much space on my desk either. This is a big win.
As its name suggests, this small, adjustable stand is definitely basic, with a rear kickstand that folds flat for easy storage and transport if you want to carry it around. It’s perfect for someone who heads to the office a few days a week, and I also liked how its sleek silver body blends nicely with his other tech gadgets (also available in black). Additionally, its slight “arm” prevents the laptop from sliding off the front, and the rubberized non-slip bottom keeps the stand from slipping when sitting at a desk.
In terms of dimensions, it’s 9.5 inches wide at its widest and 7.91 inches deep, so it worked well to hold my 12 x 8 1/2 inch laptop steady while typing. My laptop usually fits on the stand, but has about 2 inches of overhang on each side. This is because the Amazon Basics laptop stand is widest in the middle and tapers towards the front.
In its most “open” position, the laptop stand lifted the top of my screen by about 3 inches, allowing me to type comfortably at an 18-degree tilt. It’s not technically adjustable, but if you slide the kickstand a bit so that the angle is more vertical, you can get a little more height, closer to 4 inches. Of course, this makes the stand slightly less stable, so if you’re a fast, heavy typist, you’ll want to keep the stand in the intended position. There are a few things you can’t do with the Amazon Basics stand. It’s not as wide or tall as my Twelve South Curve stand. It’s also not (officially) adjustable like other stands I’ve used. , which costs more.
