Galaxy Watch5 and Watch4 update adds support for doorbell cameras, thermostats

The latest update to the Samsung Galaxy Watch series gives you even more control over your smart home gadgets. It works on Samsung and third-party devices integrated with the SmartThings platform.

Update (v1.1.08) is rolling out to Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro, Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic.

Once installed, the watch can set a set temperature for heating or cooling and control the thermostat. You can also open and close automatic blinds or manually adjust their levels. In addition, you can control the fan speed of your home air purifier. And if you lose something with the SmartTag attached, you can set the tag to ring (and then stop ringing).

Latest Update Lets Samsung Galaxy Watches Control SmartThings Gadgets

One interesting feature is allowing the watch to live stream video from your home or doorbell camera. This works for Ring and Nest cameras that support WebRTC. For example, if someone rings your door, you can see who is who on your watch and even talk to them.

With this update, Galaxy Watches will at least be able to control Samsung smart TVs that support Bluetooth (you also need to be in Bluetooth range for this to work). Accessing SmartThings controls is easy. Just swipe right on the watch face.

Incidentally, Samsung recently used the Matter protocol to work with other manufacturers to expand the number of devices that can connect to the SmartThings network. He also unveiled his new SmartThings Station, a multifunctional hub for those just getting started building smart homes.
