Opinion: We may not have made it through January yet, but Apple started the year with a sprinkle of new technology.
The release of the MacBook Pro with the M2 Pro and M2 Max was less flashy, but the announcement of the new HomePod, the audio device Apple discontinued years ago and replaced the Mini version. was much more surprising.
With the resurrection of products many thought dead, here are six other discarded technologies Apple should bring back.
1. iPod
Along with some of the most iconic products Apple has ever released, the iPod has been superseded by the iPhone in many ways. The sleek white music player shot up his Apple popularity in the early 2000s, and he’s still one of the most recognizable techs.
The iPod line officially ceased to exist with the discontinuation of Touch models in 2022, but the series actually died long before this. However, it remains a product – no matter how niche it is – and we’d love to see Apple bring it back.
Given Sony’s recent release of another high-end Walkman that made headlines, Apple’s increased focus on audio technology and its Apple Music streaming service, and the general popularity of retro-style tech. , the company created a modern version of the iPod. It won’t happen, but at least we can hope.
2. 12-inch MacBook
The 12-inch MacBook was a breakthrough product. It was a tiny laptop packed with many of the features previously reserved for Pro machines, including a crisp Retina display and modern design.
It was the first Apple laptop to do away with fans, making bold choices like replacing traditional ports with a single USB-C connector.
It’s had a few revisions, but it’s no longer Apple’s MacBook line of machines, and I doubt it’ll be back any time soon.
Apple likely sees the iPad Pro/Magic Keyboard combination as a true successor, but for us, it’s cheaper than the MacBook Air M2, but with a pure focus on portability and battery life. A matching M2-toting machine is going to be an instant hit.
3. iMac Pro
At the time of this writing, Apple isn’t selling a truly modern high-end iMac. The 24-inch iMac with the M1 chip was always designed as a family machine, but the original Intel iMac Pro was dropped from his 2021 lineup and never replaced.
It seems that one day there will be an M-series iMac Pro with the power of a Mac Studio and a screen on par with the Studio Display, but for now the iMac lacks its true Pro version.
4. Air power
AirPower is one of those products that never really hit the shelves. First announced in late 2017 as a way to wirelessly charge a set of Apple Watch, iPhone, and AirPods at the same time, this appealing product was delayed and canceled entirely a few years later.
Apple claims it was canceled because the product didn’t live up to its high standards, and at least from Apple the MagSafe Duo charger came the closest.
It’s been a few years since the cancellation, but AirPower’s charm remains, at least for us. It doesn’t really offer the ability to charge with. Maybe it’s time to try again?
5. iSight webcam
The iSight is probably one of the only webcams that can be described as “beautiful.” Apple usually has a $149 camera with a metal body and eye-catching design that’s made to sit on top of Apple’s similarly sleek monitor. The iSight name continued to be used to refer to the webcams built into many MacBooks and iPhones, but the physical product was discontinued in 2008.
Webcams have grown in importance in recent years, and the pandemic has forced more people to understand how a quality camera can improve video calls. The latest iSight with is perfect for monitors without cameras.
6. iPod socks
Socks for iPod. What more do I need to say? Make iPhone Socks, iPad Socks, or even MacBook Socks for her. I will buy them all.
