“New games from Square Enix are always something to celebrate, and I was really looking forward to Forspoken, but the final game has a lot to admire, but also a lot of problems.” , Jon breaks down his critique into what works and what doesn’t, summing up his final impression of beating the game.
Digital Foundry Tech Review
“The protagonist Frey Holland (Ella Balinska) is a young woman transported from New York City to the fantasy world of Asia. She uses her magical powers to travel there and survive to find her way home. Other characters include Frey’s sentient Bracelet Cuff (Jonathan Cake), archivist Johedy (Keira Settle), and Oden (Monica Barbaro).
Forspoken GamingBolt review explains:
“Forspoken’s story is very passable, especially when it comes to giving you an excuse to explore Athia and take part in epic boss battles that reek of a studio that doesn’t have enough confidence in its story.” The insistence on over-explaining aspects: being self-reliant, which is a shame, because Forspoken is incredibly unique in several ways, including an interesting and varied combat system. If you knew you could actually play it, you’d be talking about this year’s Dark Horse contender.
