Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing to investigate the lack of competition in Live Nation and the music industry. In the process, they also tapped into Taylor Swift’s lyrical knowledge.
The hearing comes after Ticketmaster’s website reported a major service outage and delays in November, preventing millions of Swift’s fans from purchasing tickets for her Eras tour. was broken. The Senate Judiciary Committee has heard from industry executives and antitrust experts.
During the hearing, the senators scrutinized Live Nation’s president and CFO, Joe Berchtold, and listened to his explanation of Live Nation’s business operations. They also brainstormed potential solutions to this problem. The hearings were announced by Senators Amy Klobuchar and Mike Lee, chairmen of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittees on Competition, Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights, respectively, and chaired by Dick Durbin and Judiciary Commissioner.
