
Have you ever wanted to quit the job you’re after, but you just can’t quit?
It’s hard to survive a job when you don’t feel motivated to keep working. Every day, I get out of bed, drag myself to work and greet my boss with a reluctant smile.
“What if I hate my job?” It’s a tough question, but here are some tips to ease the process of surviving at work until you find something more relatable.
1. Set goals and work towards them
If you are desperate to get out of your current job, you should set goals. Think carefully about what you want to achieve and why your current job doesn’t allow you to achieve it.
Once you have a clear goal, you can move in that direction. Even at work, you can think about how to use your time to get one step closer to your goals.
2. Develop skills and get training
You have a goal in mind, but you need certain skills to achieve it. Whether you’re planning a career change or want to ease your current workplace situation, you’ll have a long way to go to hone your skills and get training.
For example, if you think you need to improve your communication skills, try hanging out with your colleagues, speaking at public events, or hosting a team building event. Try attending a company training session as it will be a breath of fresh air to learn something new.
3. Identify the cause and find a solution
Take a moment to pause, think, and think about why you aren’t enjoying your current job. Maybe it’s because you don’t like the long commute to the office, you don’t like feeling valued at work, or you have too much work.
Either way, try talking to your manager and sharing your problem. Request hybrid working conditions and delegate assigned tasks. Whatever challenges you face, it’s imperative that you communicate them to your boss.
4. Share your problem with someone you trust
Sometimes all you need to do is vent your frustrations. Find someone with whom you can share everything that is on your mind. Such a person can even advise you to move things forward if you were in the same place.
Make sure the person is trustworthy and capable of listening to you without passing judgment. After all, you don’t want people telling you things that could hurt you.
5. Find positive distractions
If you don’t like your time at work, you should enjoy your time away from work. If you’re interested in painting, now’s the perfect time to pick up a paintbrush and pour your heart out. Enroll in a photography course, a yoga session, or a language class, whatever sparks a spark in you.
6. Pursue a side project
Just because you don’t enjoy your time at work doesn’t mean you can’t explore your options. You can start a side business that will rejuvenate you.
If you enjoy these side projects, you can turn them into full-time career options. You can be rewarded for doing them, which gives you financial independence. It helps you quit your current job without struggling for money.
7. Practice gratitude
Always remember that you have a life worth living. Work is only one side. Don’t let yourself define how you feel about your job. Practice gratitude and be grateful for the little joys in life.
It may not look like much to you, but it might mean the world to someone else!
