Agriculture is ravaging the planet. But you may be able to feed yourself in more environmentally friendly ways. It’s about using renewable energy to turn carbon dioxide into food.
“This is becoming a reality,” says Solar Foods’ Pasi Vainikka. The company is building the first commercial-scale plant to produce food directly from carbon dioxide near Helsinki, Finland.2He says it is capable of producing 100 tonnes a year, which is equivalent to four to five million meals. “We are a little behind schedule, but production could start around 2023,” he says Vainikka.
