Benchmarking Intel Core i9-13900k and NVIDIA RTX 4090

The past six weeks have been jam-packed with product announcements from each of the big three component manufacturers – 13th Gen Intel Core, AMD Ryzen 7000, and NVIDIA RTX 4090. We’ve worked hard to qualify each of these exciting new parts and add them as configuration options to our award-winning desktops. Part of that testing process includes running benchmarks to evaluate performance. I am so impressed with the Intel Core i9-13900k and NVIDIA RTX 4090 that I want to share. Read on to find out how this new hardware will improve frame rates for gamers and reduce render times for pros.

I9-13900k Cinebench Benchmark

First, the Cinebench screenshot is the result of that video showing a blazing multi-core score of over 41,000.

Check out the AMD Threadripper 2990WX for some context. The AMD Threadripper 2990WX is a 32-core workstation processor specifically designed for highly threaded workloads with a score of 30,054. 13900k is more than 35% different. Here are some more results for comparison.

As you can see, the 13900k has the highest single and multi-threaded scores on a list that includes AMD Ryzen’s new flagship 7950X, 3rd Gen Threadripper, and previous generation Intel Core and Core X processors. This is an impressive feature, especially for CPU-intensive workloads such as content creation and CAD design.

NVIDIA RTX 4090 3DMark Benchmark

The following series of screenshots are from 3DMark, which gives us more information about graphics performance than the CPU-based Cinebench. First, the Time Spy Extreme measuring 4K gaming:

RTX 4090 3D Mark Time Spy

Time Spy Extreme scores vary greatly by clock and cooler, but 13,000 is generally considered a good score for a single 3090 Ti, while an overclocked liquid-cooled 3090 Ti’s record is 14,611. Needless to say, the +33% increase from the previous world record is amazing and marks an incredible generational leap for the RTX 4090.

Next up is 3D Mark Speed Way, which measures ray tracing capabilities.

As with the previous benchmark, this represents a significant performance improvement over the 3090 Ti’s average score of around 6,500. +54%. Incredible.

This is obviously just a quick rundown of what we found during our testing, but given the generational jump in both CPU and GPU performance these numbers show, now is the perfect time to upgrade. It is no exaggeration to say that A new game or workstation PC.
