According to a new report, Google will begin mass production of parts for its foldable flagship in the third quarter. Samsung Display, in particular, will start manufacturing foldable displays in July or August. ElekGoogle’s foldable project has fallen behind many times over the last few years, so those plans aren’t finalized.
It looks like there was a display downgrade. A South Korean publication reports that Samsung Display will manufacture a 7.57-inch foldable panel and his 5.78-inch panel for the cover display. Last month’s render suggested diagonals of 7.69 inches and 5.79 inches.
More worrying than the dimensions is the information Google has settled on for older display tech (Galaxy Z Fold3 and earlier). The 2021 Z Fold3 omits the polarizing layer, making the display thinner, lighter and (more importantly) easier to fold.

Also, stylus support is “unlikely” and will remain limited to Samsung’s foldable flagship. There have been proposals for an advanced under-display camera for the cover display, but it probably never materialized.
The Google Pixel Fold may not be as powerful and advanced as it was originally intended, but at least it could be cheaper.
Google I/O is in May, but it’s too early to fully reveal the foldable Pixel (at least Elek’s timetable is correct). This could mean an October launch alongside the Pixel 8 series (the 7 series was announced on October 6, 2022).
