CES 2023: Garmin’s LTE dash camera is always on

Garmin dropped a new dash cam at CES 2023 that’s always connected via LTE. This means that users can always see what their car looks like.

There is a small pitfall. Requires purchase of an LTE plan starting at $4.99 per month and a Dash Cam Live camera for $399.99. With that subscription, you can watch a 140 degree, 1440p HD view from your car anytime, on demand. This camera also has theft and other alert features. The selling point is that this gives the driver peace of mind.

Garmin’s vice president of global consumer sales, Dan Bartel, said: “Similar to the popular doorbell security camera system that provides a view around your front door, the Garmin Dash Cam Live acts as a 24/7 witness for ultimate peace of mind and situational awareness. I can unload the truck at the stadium or leave the convertible on the beach.”

Users can save clips and cameras are always on, auto-saving incidents while tagging time and location. You can also operate the camera with your voice. This means you can execute commands while holding the steering wheel. For example, the driver can take a still image or save a video with a voice command.

An LTE plan seems like a relatively necessary purchase for Dash Cam Live as it enables many options such as live view, location tracking and theft alerts. It’s OK.
