Most hotels complain to the front desk when the room temperature drops to -5°C (23°F), but that’s the whole point of Icehotel in northern Sweden. This annual attraction is now open and offers a chilly experience defined by the fine art of ice sculptures.
There’s also another hotel nearby named Icehotel 365, which is open year-round and has its own ice sculptures, warm rooms, and more, but the big draw is the annual Icehotel.
This 33rd iteration used 500 tons (446 tons) of ice supplied by a neighboring river and the equivalent of 10 Olympic pools filled with snis (a mixture of snow and ice) to Created over 6 weeks.
About 24 artists from 13 countries were involved in creating 12 bedrooms filled with ice sculptures dubbed “Art Suites,” while the ceremony hall used for weddings was designed by the designer. Worked on by Wouter Biegelaar and architect Viktor Tsarski.

The ice sculptures themselves range from bizarre to simple. A notable example is Home Nature, created above by Munkh-Erdene Tsagaan and Uugantsetseg, which aims to emphasize the need for people to protect the environment and live in harmony with nature. The lower mushroom, on the other hand, imagines a bizarre tale of a visitor finding it shrunk to the size of an insect in the woods and eating some kind of unidentified mushroom while foraging. increase.
Luca Roncoroni, Creative Director of Icehotel, said: “Couples at this winter wedding can literally be hugged in the ceremony hall and even sleep under ice domes, Japanese gardens, oversized mushrooms and surrounded by flowers. I am amazed at what the team can accomplish.A talented international artist surrounded by a team of ice experts can truly create magic.Welcome to Ice Hotel 33!”

The 33rd Icehotel will be open until April, after which everything will start to melt again (although Icehotel 365 will of course remain open all year round). For those physically fit enough to make the journey, visitors are kept comfortable with warm drinks, thick mattresses and reindeer skins, but it’s definitely a good idea to bring some warm pajamas as well. .
