Twitter users in Australia and New Zealand are facing problems accessing the service for more than 12 hours, they say. That’s because Elon Musk-owned social his network continues to grapple with reliability issues amid cost-cutting measures.
The outage began around 2pm Pacific time on Tuesday, according to user tweets and DownDetector (Australia and New Zealand), a web monitoring tool that tracks reliability issues.
The glitch that is causing tweets not to load for users and the service to be extremely slow for others seems to only affect people in Australia and New Zealand.
DownDetector’s global website has very few complaints. The cause of the blackout is unknown.
Many users say they can access the service after using a VPN app. Some users report sporadic improvements to the Twitter service, but complaints are still pouring in.
Twitter suffered a global outage last week after Musk said it should feel “faster” because he rolled out “a major change to the backend server architecture.”
Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion in late October. He has tried to reduce Twitter’s expenses by eliminating thousands of employees. Many of them worked to maintain the service’s infrastructure. Musk is also focused on making his Twitter experience faster for users by removing bloated code from the service.
