What you need to know
- After the user reboots the device, the Pixel Watch’s fall detection feature will appear.
- Devices running the latest software prompted me to set up the fall detection feature while providing information on how it worked.
- Google hasn’t properly launched or rolled out the feature yet, but it’s said to be coming this winter.
Personal safety features on Google’s first smartwatch are looking forward to their debut.
9to5Google received a tip about the Google Pixel Watch’s fall detection feature. This feature appeared in the form of a surprise after users rebooted their devices. This was apparently discovered from the latest RWD9.220429.070 Assemble the Pixel Watch I received in December. Once the watch is fully booted, the user is prompted to set up fall detection, followed by a description that says, “Get immediate help after a hard fall by allowing the watch to call key contacts.” displayed.
Then a new feature came to the Pixel Watch phone app. Watch settings > Safety & emergencies > Fall detectionFrom within this setting, the app informed users that this feature and international emergency calls were not available in some areas. The app then explains that “the international emergency call feature requires his 4G LTE-equipped Google Pixel Watch,” with a disclaimer that the watch cannot detect all falls.
Some additional information claims that the Pixel Watch’s fall detection can detect drops up to 32g force.
Google Pixel Watch’s window to receive this fall detection feature is set for this winter, which we learned at launch. I sent it to my personal safety support page. The support information just repeats the winter start of the feature, and people in Australia and Germany miss the ability for their watches to auto-dial emergency services.
Pixel Watch now has one form of personal safety that alerts emergency contacts or emergency services if life is threatened. The user can also send her an emergency SOS by pressing her five times on the crown of the device. And from within the watch’s own safety and emergency settings, users can find a way to send their current location to local emergency services.

Wearing the Google Pixel Watch is like walking around the world right on your wrist, and it also tells you the time. Pixel Watch seamlessly brings together Google Assistant, smart home controls, wallet and Fitbit into one cohesive symphony.
