Verkada’s CD62-E is easy to set up, use and share footage
I connected it to a Power over Ethernet switch, so no additional wiring was required. Verkada touts the camera as “low-utilizing” bandwidth, with him using only 20-50 kilobytes per second per camera when stationary. In fact, using the camera didn’t have much impact on the network.
The Verkada CD62-E network surveillance camera also features a durable, vandal-resistant dome design that stands up to the TikTok trend.
The user interface of the Verkada CD62-E network surveillance camera is clean and intuitive. Non-technical colleagues with varying technical skills took only about 10 minutes to learn how to use.
It was also easy to share videos. Simply click a button and enter your email address or mobile phone number to share your MP4 video clip. This video clip is watermarked to make the footage admissible as legal evidence.
Verkada CD62-E processes camera footage
As a bonus, the footage is processed by each camera, virtually eliminating the delay between detection and alert. Onboard storage also reduces the burden on districts to install network video recorders for local storage and backup. All footage is stored on the camera and backed up to the cloud.
This was my school district’s first use of Video over IP cameras and was a significant upgrade to our current system dating back to the 1990s. 4K images and videos were crisp and clear. The ability to set alerts and view cameras anytime, anywhere saves a lot of staff time.

We also tested Verkada’s analytics, which can filter images based on face matching, clothing color, vehicle type, and more. When I tested the facial recognition with staff members as “subjects”, I received alerts every time they passed in front of the camera, even if they were wearing glasses or hats.
Motion detection also worked as expected, with alerts appearing after each incident. Verkada also includes these features for cross-camera tracking, providing multiple angles and tracking subject movement. This suite of Verkada cameras provides occupancy trend data and heat maps to monitor space usage and trends.

Verkada CD62-E is scalable across the K–12 campus
With all these features and ease of use, the Verkada CD62-E is perfect for any school environment. Although we only tested one camera, we were able to easily extend this to the entire district without the need for additional equipment or software.
As long as Power over Ethernet is available, each new camera can be online and added to the console in minutes. Even better, you can integrate Verkada’s SAML or OAuth support to provide single sign-on for all your users and complete two-factor compliance.
