Sony announces its EV car ‘Afeela’ at CES

Sony kicked off its big CES 2023 event by unveiling its hit racing game grand touring It was coming to the new Playstation VR2 platform. After that, Sony announced the actual car.

That’s right, Sony is partnering with Honda to enter the EV market with a new car brand called Afeela.

A few highlights we know so far: Afeela has a real display built into the front bumper that can be used to provide information to passing cars and pedestrians. Sony showed off a variety of themes that could be used, such as a Spider-Man design that uses the display to appear in front of Afeela. You can imagine simply letting customers know that their ride has arrived.

Sony and Honda EVs also incorporate entertainment consoles that offer a variety of Sony movie, music and game titles. Sony’s brands, including Playstation, will be heavily integrated into Afeela.

Sony also invited Epic CTO Kim Liberi to integrate Unreal Engine into Afeela to create a “driving game engine.” The vehicle is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis.

Another standout feature is that Afeela will be equipped with 45 cameras and sensors inside and outside the vehicle.

Formerly Sony and Honda announced We set up a joint mobility venture early last year. And Afeela looks like the result, at least when it comes to luxury car brands. The Afeela was very sophisticated in person, but we still have a lot to learn about it.

But are you feeling it now? If so, Sony has announced that Afeela will first ship to U.S. customers in the spring of 2026. The company will begin taking pre-orders in 2025.
