TCL announces 40 SE, 403 and 408 phones and NxtPaper 12 Pro tablet

TCL held a busy CES 2023 and unveiled a trio of new budget phones and tablets. Let’s see what they bring to the table.

TCL40SE

The best-equipped phone in the new lineup is the TCL 40 SE. It features a 6.75 inch IPC LCD with HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The phone also comes with stereo speakers and a notch for an 8MP front camera.

MediaTek’s Helio G37 chipset is backed by 4/6 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of storage, further expandable via a microSD slot. On the back, it has a 50MP primary camera and a 2MP macro cam and depth sensor. The phone runs Android 13 with TCL UI 5.0, boasts a 5,010 mAh battery and 18W charging speed.

The TCL 40SE will come in gray and purple colors and debut in Europe later this quarter at a value of $169.

TCL408

The TCL 408 is a slightly cheaper alternative to the 40 SE that retails for $129. It has a 6.6 inch LCD with HD+ resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. On the back is a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth module. The selfie shooter is 8MP and is housed in a V-shaped notch.

The TCL 408 is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P22 chipset and is available with 4/6GB RAM and 128/256GB storage. The phone runs Android 12, has a 5,000 mAh battery, and supports 10W charging speeds.

The TCL 408 is priced at $129 in gray and blue colors and will be available in Europe and Asia soon.

TCL403

The TCL 403 is a budget device with a 6-inch TFT IPS with a resolution of 480 x 960 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The phone has a 5MP selfie camera and a single 8MP shooter on the back. Powered by MediaTek’s Helio A22 chipset, 2GB RAM and expandable 32GB storage. The phone runs Android 12 (Go edition) and has a 3,000 mAh battery that charges via microUSB.

The TCL 403 is available in Black and Mauve Mist colors. Pricing and availability details were not provided.

TCL NxtPaper 12 Pro

The TCL NxtPaper 12 Pro delivers a spacious 12.2 inch screen with a resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels and an aspect ratio of 3:2. The Android 12 tablet is powered by the MediaTek Kompanio 800T chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage expandable with a microSD slot. It has an 8MP cam on the front and a 13MP shooter and a single LED flash on the back.

TCL bundles an E-Pen stylus that supports over 8,192 pressure levels. The software side is handled by Android 12, the battery is 8,000 mAh and charges via USB-C. TCL also offers an optional keyboard accessory that magnetically attaches to the tablet via pogo pins.

The TCL NxtPaper 12 Pro is available in the US for $499 (Wi-Fi only), with a 5G model slated for $549 later this year.
