Small homes built for people to live in are clearly the most common, but the small livelihood movement has left its mark on everything from pubs to bookstores and even wedding chapels. Imaginative uses come from the French Baluchon. It recently completed a portable office for healthcare workers.
The project was named L’atelier de Saint-Joseph (or Saint Joseph’s Workshop). It is based on a 2 axle trailer and is only 4 m (13 ft) long. In overview, Minimaliste’s Magnolia V5 Tiny House is 10.5 m (38 ft) long.
Finished in red cedar exterior and aluminum, power is supplied through standard RV style hookups. Baluchon does not specify exactly what medical use it is used for, but says the owner is a medical professional who uses it to give advice.
The interior is very compact, finished in solid oak and spruce, with plenty of natural light thanks to the generous glazing. Curtains are also installed for privacy.

As guests enter the reception area, the space near the large windows is dominated by a bed with plenty of storage. Near where the kitchen is supposed to be, there is a work area with a desk and some seating, as well as some more storage space. Additionally, a small wood-burning stove provides heat for the small office.
Baluchon added some loft storage above the bathroom, but there are no sleeping lofts in this build as there are no plans to use it as a home. The bathroom itself looks compact for a small house, but it’s fully equipped with a shower, sink and toilet.
No word on exact pricing for L’atelier de Saint-Joseph, but Baluchon models typically start at €80,000 (approximately US$85,000).
