Following the demise of 3D TV, it’s safe to say that most people are skeptical about the future success of such technology. Still, that didn’t deter Asus from launching a new laptop with his 3D display.
The Asus ProArt Studiobook 16 3D OLED is an absolute marvel, allowing you to view 3D images without the need for glasses. Objects on the screen appear to pop off the display and into the real world.
Asus isn’t the first to launch a laptop with a 3D panel, with rival Acer beating out both the ConceptD 7 SpatialLabs and the Predator Helios 300 SpatialLabs Editions.
However, Asus says the ProArt Studiobook 16 3D OLED is the first glass-free OLED laptop to utilize the technology. I was able to actually use the laptop at CES 2023. Here are my first impressions.

The Asus ProArt Studiobook 16 3D OLED looks like a standard laptop, save for the large camera sensor that protrudes from the top.
Turn on 3D-enabled video and this laptop comes to life. Hands-on time allowed us to play with a model of a knight. When I spun him back, his legs seemed to poke through the glass screen into the real world.

Unfortunately, it’s almost impossible to capture this visual effect in a static image, but take my word for it to be incredibly impressive. It’s now easier to see what it looks like. This is especially useful for VR game developers, as traditional 2D laptop screens are inadequate to show how the model will look in the virtual world.
The second demo showed a cartoon alien in space. 3D technology helped create the illusion that the characters were floating off the screen. It looked so real that I couldn’t resist the urge to grab an anime character.
Personally, I’m not convinced anyone would buy this laptop to watch 3D movies like Avatar: The Way of Water, but I’m sure this laptop will display immersive 3D videos It’s impressive to see the ability look as good as it does on TV. cinema.

Asus also showed us a demo of the Asus ProArt Studiobook 16 3D OLED laptop working in tandem with the zSpace camera. This technology allowed us to use a paired stylus to pull objects on the screen as if we were pulling them off the screen. I was able to hold an animated butterfly on the tip of my stylus and rotate it to examine the details of its wings.
The zSpace camera isn’t available for purchase alongside the Asus ProArt Studiobook 16 3D OLED, at least at the time of writing, but this CES 2023 demo demonstrated the exciting potential of this 3D-enabled laptop.
Part of the ProArt Studiobook series, this laptop also has everything you need for high-end content creation. The Asus Dial stands out and offers more control than any trackpad in a variety of content creation apps.

The 16-inch screen also uses OLED technology, which Asus claims is the first to use 3D without glasses. OLED has great contrast and color accuracy, which are very important for creative professionals, so it’s a big advantage over more common laptop screens.
The display also features a fast 120Hz refresh rate, allowing the laptop to display fast-moving objects with greater clarity.
This is a fairly large and heavy laptop, so it should be viewed as a desktop replacement rather than an ultraportable device. The Asus ProArt Studiobook 16 3D OLED is powered by an Intel Core i9-13980HX processor, featuring 24 cores / 32 threads and capable of speeds up to 5.6GHz. You’ll have a hard time finding stronger processing performance.
Asus also has the Nvidia RTX 4070 inside, which is part of Nvidia’s latest laptop GPUs. It’s not the fastest chip Nvidia offers (the RTX 4090 takes the honor), but it’s plenty powerful enough for the majority of creative tasks.

Asus claims the new IceCool Pro thermal technology should help keep the laptop cool and quiet during heavy workloads, but we’ll have to wait until we get a review sample to test this. is needed.
Laptops can be configured with up to 64 GB of DDR5 memory and 8 TB of storage. It is unlikely that you will need more memory or storage space than is listed here.
First impression
3D technology is very impressive on the Asus ProArt Studiobook 16 3D OLED. Especially since you don’t have to wear glasses. But the average person rarely needs a 3D view, so I think it has a niche appeal.
This feels like a 3D artist, especially a prosumer laptop designing virtual reality assets. Being able to look at your model from different angles in 3D space is limited to certain audiences, but can be very useful.
