High-tech motorized Ella could be the Tesla of strollers

Pushing a baby in a stroller is certainly easier than carrying it, but it still requires some effort. The Ella stroller is designed to make things easier with an electric assist motor, hands-free mode, and a variety of other “smart” features.

Ella, which currently wins innovation awards at CES, is manufactured by Canadian startup Glüxkind. The company’s name comes from her Glückskind, a German word meaning “lucky child”.

First of all, there are those motors. It powers the two rear wheels and provides an electric boost when parents are pushing the stroller uphill. It also has a brake assist function that prevents the stroller from going downhill when going downhill.

In fact, the stroller can autonomously navigate the pavement to follow pedestrians even when both hands are full, such as when a baby wants to sit on it for a while. In this mode, it uses his suite of onboard 360-degree sensors to follow the pavement and avoid obstacles while staying within reach of the user by detecting the proximity of the smartphone.

Ella can be put into Rock-My-Baby mode when parents stop for a break. In this mode, Ella slowly rolls back and forth, essentially “rocking the cradle”. The stroller also has a built-in white noise generator to further lull your baby to sleep.

Other features include a parking brake, a lower storage basket for groceries, diapers, etc., a removable bassinet for babies, and a ‘smart seat’ for infant car seats. The retractable vented sunshade keeps small occupants out of the sun with an expandable net adding mosquito protection.

Finally, with the included app, you can always check the whereabouts of your stroller in the city.

Interested buyers can reserve the Ella now by paying a CAD $200 (approximately US$149) deposit through the Glüxkind website. The total purchase price he starts at US$3,800.
