SmallRig P20 steadies smartphone videography, folds into a capsule

Smartphones can now shoot great video, but their form factor still makes it difficult to hold steady while shooting. The SmallRig P20 is the latest device designed to address that shortcoming, folding into a compact capsule when not in use.

Currently in the Kickstarter campaign, the aluminum-bodied P20 features rubberized hand grips on both sides for more stability when shooting with both hands. According to the designers, it’s compatible with all phones 4 inches (102 mm) wide or less.

The bracket can be rotated with respect to the body of the rig for horizontal or vertical shooting, plus the P20 can hold the phone hanging down or outstretched depending on the situation.

A threaded hole in the center of the rig allows it to be attached to third-party tripods. Additionally, collapsible cold shoes on each end allow you to attach accessories such as lights and shotgun mics.

And, as mentioned, everything folds into a capsule-shaped pocketable package for storage and transport. In that configuration, it measures 183 x 50 x 25 mm (7.2 x 2 x 1 inches) and reportedly weighs 300 g (10.5 oz).

Assuming the SmallRig P20 goes into production, you can pledge one for yourself for a $24 USD pledge. Planned retail price is $50. It is demonstrated in the following video.
