If you don’t particularly like the microwave or want to gently heat your food when lunch is ready, Steambox can handle a steamy lunch. The company sold over 500 of his devices via Kickstarter at the end of 2019 and is finally ready to start shipping devices. We confirmed it at his CES in Las Vegas this week.
The company says it has sold between 1,300 and 1,400 Steamboxes to date through a combination of Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and its own pre-orders.
“Steambox is for every foodie in the world. Co-founder and COO Kevin de Krieger explains. He explains why he thinks steaming is better than microwaves. “SThe team does not dry out the food, which is very convenient. Also, the entire food is heated evenly. The taste will be even better. We’ve learned from our customers that they love steam. Microwaves basically kill food, but steam keeps it fresh and prepares food in the first place. It tastes like when We love it, and so do our first customers. “
The company has produced about 3,000 so far, with inventories in the US and Europe waiting for buyers willing to part with $270 to get rid of the office microwave.

“Generally, it takes 15-20 minutes to heat up the food and make a hot meal. The battery capacity is about 45 minutes, so one charge can be used 2-3 times. Then it needs to be charged for 2 hours. there is,” explains de Krieger.
The Bamboo-topped device looks incredibly sleek and has evolved quite a bit since the Kickstarter prototype. That said, in the final design the company chose to go back to a tip-and-sleeve style charger. If the high-end laptop can be charged from a 65W charger, the company should have found a way to use his USB-C to charge the onboard battery as well.
“It will be easy to change to USB-C in the future,” assures de Krieger. “But it hasn’t been possible so far because of how USB-C works. We’re just waiting to get it working, and then we’ll definitely include it in the product.”
The company’s CEO prepared a video showing how the device works.
The steamer contains a 120W heating element and measures 10.5 x 6.5 x 3.5 inches (27 x 16.5 x 9 cm). The food container is made of stainless steel and has a silicone lid. It holds up to 25 oz (750 ml) and the entire device weighs about 4.4 lbs (1991 g).
It can be purchased now from the company’s website for €249 / $269.
