As I wandered the halls of CES in Las Vegas, one product category stood out across the board. A lot of focus is on portable (and not very portable) power storage. These range from simple small power packs to sophisticated power plants that can connect to portable or rooftop solar, and go beyond the average battery pack to charge your phone once or twice. weeks at that point.

The smallest portable power station usually comes with a few 110v sockets and a few USB sockets, and sometimes a 12V car cigarette lighter port for small peripherals. From there, it can get pretty advanced. Powered by a variety of power sources including all-solid-state batteries, 240V power supplies, wireless charging ports, ability to connect additional batteries, and mains, solar, car chargers and even designed high-end fast chargers option for electric vehicles.

It would be completely silly to try to capture everything we saw at CES, but here are some of the highlights.

EcoFlow Travel Forward Innovation

EcoFlow burst onto the scene a few years ago and has established itself as a very important player in the portable power space. At his CES, the company unveiled battery-powered refrigerators with ice makers, the latest versions of portable, battery-powered air conditioning units, and many other innovations. But the biggest news of the year is that the company will roll out a system for home battery backup systems later this year.

Yoshino’s all-solid-state battery

Yoshino’s portable power station is built around a new solid electrolyte that replaces the bulky and flammable liquid electrolyte found in most lithium batteries. The company told me it improves performance and offers higher energy density.In other words, the same amount of power comes in a smaller, lighter package compared to traditional lithium batteries. A company representative claimed that the battery pack could be gunned down without igniting. We didn’t have a gun to confirm the claim.

The company also suggests the new battery can charge faster than older chemistries, reaching up to 80% capacity within an hour and claiming up to twice the power per pound of traditional lithium batteries. I’m here. One that definitely deserves attention. The power station has plenty of ports, and the wireless charging pad on top of the power station is a nice touch.

Bluetti powers your entire home

The biggest news from Bluetti was full house power in the form of the B300S and its corresponding inverter series. Under normal use, the mains power supply (or solar array) will replenish the battery. When power runs out, the battery pack acts like an uninterruptible power supply for your entire home. You can power them all or design two separate circuits. One with the critical power circuits (refrigerator, cooking, heating/cooling, etc.) and the other with the less critical circuits (washing machines, EVs, etc.).

Zendure’s Overkill cooler-sized celebration

Zendure’s Superbase V really expands the definition of what can be considered “portable”. It weighs 100 lbs (46 kg) and at least has a drawer handle and motorized wheels to help move it. With 6.4kWh built in, you can do just about anything once installed. However, it also supports additional battery modules for up to 64kWh worth of storage. When fully charged, that’s more than an entry-level Tesla Model 3 battery pack, and the company says it’s enough to power him for a week in a typical home.

It supports both 120V and 240V voltages and can power both small home appliances such as refrigerators and large home appliances such as induction cookers and electric clothes dryers. Hell, with up to 12,000W of power, you can charge two electric cars simultaneously if you want. Prices start at $3,100. Fully drained with four external batteries, the price will exceed $15,000.

Geneverse is widely distributed in the US and is available at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Costco, Sam’s Club, and online. It’s easy to see why. The company launched his two new power plants. The HomePower One features 1,210Wh capacity, 1,200W rated power, and 2,400W surge power, while its brother HomePower Two features 2,419Wh capacity, 2,200W rated power, and 4,400W surge power. Both have three 120V outlets, two 100W USB-C outputs, and two USB-A fast charging sockets.

None of these stats really move the needle, but prices do. Adding 2 or 4 solar panels to the power station respectively brings the price to $2,600 or $4,800. At such a price, home backup power is starting to be within reach for most homeowners.The company hasn’t cut corners on batteries either, with its super-efficient LFP/LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate ) battery technology. These are indeed very safe and offer a lifespan of around 3,000 charge cycles.

Schneider suggests battery storage will take root

We’ve seen a lot of startups in the smart home panel space for a while now. What’s new is that big boys are joining in on the fun.

Energy giant Schneider Electric has stepped in, signaling that home battery power storage is really starting to go mainstream. Why is this a big deal? About 40% of all homes already rely on this brand for their primary breaker panels and other key components in their home electrical appliances.

The app-controlled company has unveiled an all-new energy management solution for home batteries. This includes high-power solar inverters, smart electric panels, EV chargers, and tons of extras. Some trouble along the way earned him a CES Innovation Award. Seeing large power supply companies enter the market with fully integrated solutions means the entire industry is well on its way to competing. It’s not something you can install yourself, but it bodes well for the near and medium term future.
