The Razer Edge will launch in the US on January 26th in partnership with Verizon. There’s also a Wi-Fi-only version if you’re not a Verizon fan or don’t plan on gaming on the go.
The Razer Edge Wi-Fi retails for $400. The Founders Edition includes the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless (2021) earbuds and costs $500. You can pre-order your Wi-Fi model now from Razer.com.
Alternatively, there is the Verizon version. It retails for $600, but is available with new subscriptions for a limited time of $360 ($10 per month for 36 months). The Razer Edge comes with the Kishi V2 Pro controller. It’s detachable, so it’s kind of a phone, but I’m not 100% sure you can make calls with it.
Anyway, the Razer Edge is powered by the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 which appears to be based on the Snapdragon 888. This console has active cooling so it can sustain higher performance levels than your phone. The chipset is paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage (expandable with a microSD card up to 2TB).
What makes this better than the likes of the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch is the 6.8-inch AMOLED display, which has a 2,400 x 1,080px resolution (20:9) and a 144Hz refresh rate. , the Switch OLED has a 7″ display and the Steam Deck has a 7″ LCD, but both only have 720p resolution and only run at 60Hz. However, there is no word on touch sampling rate.
All versions of the Razer Edge have Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. You can use it to stream games from your gaming PC or console, or use game streaming services. Of course, the chipset is powerful enough to handle native Android games and emulation as well. The version offered by Verizon has 5G (both sub-6GHz and mmWave). Both 6GHz Wi-Fi and 5G offer low-latency connections to minimize latency.
The board has Bluetooth 5.2 and the controller has a 3.5 mm headphone jack. If you don’t want to use headphones, there are two-way speakers with THX Spatial Audio and he two microphones for voice chat. There is also a single 5MP front-facing camera (1080p@60fps video).
There’s a 5,000mAh battery inside, but there’s no mention of charging speed. The device itself weighs 264g, but with the controller attached it drops to 5401g.
