CES 2023 is in full swing and one of its first new reveals includes monitors from Samsung. Through 2023, products across the Odyssey, ViewFinity and Smart Monitor lineups will hit the market. Here’s a quick look at what’s improved and different in this year’s monitors, and a quick rundown of the details.
Odyssey Neo G9: Combine two 4K displays into one
First up is the Odyssey Neo G9, which Samsung calls the world’s first dual UHD gaming monitor. The title comes to life on this 57-inch monitor’s ultra-wide aspect ratio (32:9), delivering a resolution of 7,680 x 2,160. Other prominent features of this product are the 1000R curved display, Quantum Mini LED technology, 240Hz refresh rate and matte finish of the panel.
The display also features the VESA Display HDR 1000 specification, demonstrating its ability to deliver excellent gaming visuals regardless of scenes containing shadows and bright environments.
This monitor uses Display Port 2.1, a new standard that transfers data nearly twice as fast as DisplayPort 1.4, so it has another world-first tag. The standard also enables industry-standard lossless display stream compression that transmits data without distortion.
Odyssey OLED G9: Better brightness and color contrast
The Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SC) is the second addition to the Odyssey lineup at CES 2023, bringing dual QHD resolution, a 49-inch panel, 1800R curve, and a 32:9 aspect ratio. But its main draw lies in the quantum dot technology OLED panels that you’ll also find on Samsung’s new TVs. This allows for per-pixel control and significantly improves the contrast ratio (1,000,000:1).
The per-pixel control design also eliminates backlight dependency, allowing the monitor to display true RGB and true black without color filters. And with a 0.1ms response time and 240Hz refresh rate, you’ll be able to see smooth gameplay.
Samsung’s Smart Hub and Gaming Hub are also featured on this monitor. These two elements can use an internet connection to stream content from OTT applications like Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube, or play games from cloud platforms like Nvidia GeForce Now.
ViewFinity S9: Color calibrated display for creators
Apple has been offering monitors for creators for several years, but Samsung has never had an option that appeals to this audience. With the ViewFinitiy S9 (S90PC), Samsung is changing this outlook.
The ViewFinity S9 comes with a 5K 27-inch (5,120 x 2,880) matte screen, whose color reproduction covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color gamut with an average delta E of less than 2. These numbers indicate that the color representation is accurate, which is essential for creative professionals.
There is also a built-in color calibration engine that allows you to adjust white balance, gamma, and RGB color balance via a smartphone application called Samsung Smart Calibration.
In addition to these image quality characteristics, a range of USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 connections are available for high-speed data transfer of images, videos, and other data files directly from external sources. Finally, if you often participate in video conferences, the monitor comes with his 4K camera and also works with the Samsung Smart Hub’s Google Meet application.
Smart Monitor M8: New size for all-in-one display
Last on our list of new monitors is the new size Samsung Smart Monitor M8. The display is now available in a new 27-inch size with 4K resolution. This joins the 32-inch 4K option in the lineup. This new generation shares many features with the previously marketed version, including a similar pleasing color aesthetic, but also introduces some new features.
Upgrades seen in this iteration include an improved integrated SlimFit camera with 2K resolution, VESA mount compatibility and support for Matter, a step forward for the previously seen SmartThings implementation.
Samsung Smart Hub and Gaming Hub are present alongside the new My Contents feature. It links to registered smartphones when they are nearby and displays photos and schedules on the screen. Encrypt personal data from certain applications and other stored files.

We don’t have pricing information yet to assess how these monitors will position themselves against the competition but from the spec sheet they are very capable with unique elements that help improve the overall user experience It’s a great product.
Incorporating Matter, Smart Hub, Gaming Hub, and more, these devices are worth considering for those who want an all-in-one solution.
We look forward to seeing these on the show floor at CES 2023 alongside new TVs and home entertainment hardware that these monitors share certain attributes with.
